PROGRAM KVARTYRNYK #2, 28 November This month, the AtelierTheater Wien will feature artists with experimental and avant-garde programs. They will try to reveal both the good and bad sides of society and the individual in various forms. The artists work in the field of video art, theater, performance, and create musical compositions at the intersection of acoustic poetry and music.

20:00–20:15 Videoart presentation “HELLO” and “Lose Yourself”

Video Art “Lose Yourself” reflects a search for tranquility and individuality amid the grandeur of nature. Filmed on the grounds of an inactive Spanish volcano, it captures the artist’s desire to surrender, dissolve, and lose oneself in the vastness of the world.

“Hello” delves into the strained relationship between Hanna Trofimova and her parents, who live in a territory occupied by the Russian Federation. Through fragmented video greetings, it portrays the emotional distance of years apart, reducing once-meaningful connections to hollow, mechanical exchanges.

20:15-20:40 Presentation of the Animated Film „Komochok” + artist talk

Created in 2022, “Komochok” is an animated film born from the emotions and reflections of Ukrainians during the early days of the full-scale invasion. It forms part of the multidisciplinary project #ukrwarbody, titled “Parts of One World, Parts of One Body,” which explores collective experiences of resilience and unity in the face of war.

21:00–21:25 Performance “Can I…Am I able to do anything right now? I am able only…Yes”

A story of generational failure and „practice“ of forgetting/cutting off bad, pain and trauma that makes allusion to the current political issues and endavours through deeply personal theme. It is a performance of failures of familly members, mine and a middle finger to all forms of „forget“ (from personal to social).

21:30-22:00 Acoustic Concert

The artist intertwines personal narratives with political themes, creating an intense connection with the audience. Her work speaks to the complexities of individual and collective struggle, offering a voice that is as reflective as it is resonant. This performance is for audiences ready to dive deep into the emotions and stories behind each piece.

The artist will perform his original songs and poetry in English to the accompaniment of an electric guitar. The set will include both released tracks, such as “After the Heat” and “Over the Sea”, and unreleased works, such as “Like a New One”, “Statue”, “Our Stage” and “Ring of Light”.

ARTISTS BIO:

– Hanna Trofimova is a Ukrainian filmmaker and artist, educated at the Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television in Kyiv, specializing in television directing.

Her work focuses on social justice, human rights, and body acceptance, often intertwining personal experiences with collective narratives, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine. Through documentaries, video art, and installations, she explores emotions and memory, connecting them to social and natural environments. Trofimova invites dialogue, seeking common ground between the personal and the universal.

– The Rofl Monkey Lalala theater group began its journey in late 2021 with experimental performances “Mom, He Liked Me” and “IWantIWant.” In response to the full-scale invasion, the group launched the documentary project “Ukraine: Parts of One World, Parts of One Body,” capturing Ukrainians‘ physical experiences from the war’s onset. This inspired the animated film “Komochok.” Known for its avant-garde style, the theater invites audience interaction during performances, often featuring actors in monkey masks.

On June 16, 2024, at the KultMotiv space, the theater hosted the “Zachuduvannya” recovery festival, a “teaser” theatrical festival for emotional healing. The program included a Rofl Monkey Lalala performance, a workshop “The Body: A Celebration

Always with You,” the live podcast “Savvy Mammals,” the play “The Ugly Little Monkey,” and an acoustic music concert.

– Oleksandr Halishchuk is a multimedia queer artist from Melitopol (southern Ukraine). In their artistic practice private-sincere and political-triggering are inseparable, due to amount of vulnerability, sincerity and deep personal issues. They also explore the intersections of such concepts as: truth and sincerity, hearing and listening, presence and being somewhere physically through personal (marginalized, queer, traumatic) life experiences.

– Olha Teriaieva born in Kyiv, the artist began writing poetry at an early age, publishing a small collection in Ukrainian, “Дорога до щастя”, at just 13. Around the same time, they began composing songs in English. After completing classical piano training in music school, they taught themselves guitar and jazz piano. In October 2023, they moved to Vienna to study linguistics at the University of Vienna, joining the UniVerse writing society. Their first musical release came in winter 2023, followed by live performances in spring 2024, debuting with Poetry Society Vienna and later performing at various Open Mics.

KVARTYRNYK is a monthly show organized by the AtelierTheater, which aims to showcase the work of young artists from Ukraine or artists working with the Ukrainian context in Europe.
